Nabī-ye Raḥmat — A Seerah Rooted in Authenticity
One of the beautiful works of Abul Hasan Ali Hasani Nadwi (raḥimahullāh) is his Seerah masterpiece:
Nabi-ye Rahmat
(Prophet of Mercy)
This work has been translated into English by Mohiuddin Ahmad, and the translation carries clarity and fluency while preserving the depth of the original.
Hazrat (raḥimahullāh) was known for his authenticity.
He did not rely on weak or baseless narrations.
He wrote with responsibility.
What makes this Seerah unique is its scope.
He does not begin only at the birth of the Prophet ﷺ.
He takes us back —
To the eras of earlier prophets
To Ibrahim (ʿalayhis-salām)
Even to Adam (ʿalayhis-salām)
Then he gradually brings the reader to the period of Jāhiliyyah — the era before Islam.
And here is his balance:
He does not portray the Arabs as entirely corrupt.
Yes, there was ignorance and moral decline.
But there were also noble qualities:
Shujāʿah (bravery)
Sakhāwah (generosity)
Īthār (selflessness)
Tawāḍuʿ (humility)
Loyalty and support for one another
These qualities were present.
And perhaps this is why Allah chose them —
To receive the final message.
To become the companions and supporters of the beloved Messenger ﷺ.
Hazrat presents both sides —
The strengths and the weaknesses.
A Seerah written with insight, balance, and deep love.
