So with summer coming I decided she needed a nice shady place to lounge outside. An animal shelter where she could watch ducks on the left and rabbits on the right. But I'm broke.Pallet wood offers the opportunity to build such a dog house / shed as the only cost are nails/screws and cosmetics. A Knock Down Modular Hand and Power Tool Work Shop for Hobbyist or Pro Woodworker. wortheffort 2022-08-06 | Work shop space is at a premium. Part of my upcoming year I plan on downsizing from a nice shared 450 sq/ft shop to the back of a pickup. First Time Milling - Assemble, Mounting Saw, Making a Cut wortheffort 2022-06-09 | Getting bowl blanks from a log is where all bowl turners start. Using just a chain saw and cutting them one at a time to dry is incredibly wasteful. So we want to be able to "slab" thick enough material so that it can dry for years in our backyard before we cut it up into individual bowl blanks. So I acquired a Stihl 661 and a Granberg Alaskan Mill/Rail kit. Here we are getting the whole setup assembled and working on a giant 30" diameter tree trunk we had wasting away in the back yard.The advantage of milling it into slabs instead of bucking it into individual bowl blanks is that if it does crack you'll only lose the ends. Bucked you'd end up losing the whole blank. Plus it leaves open options for other use down the road. Pecan Bowl Turning - Production Speed Run wortheffort 2022-06-06 | I needed some quick to make inventory for an Art Market. So out of a pecan log I finish turned these bowls. This log was very dry to begin with but as usual I let these bowls sit for almost a month before putting them up for sale. Once turned bowls will warp which is why this run was very thin bowls as that allows movement with less chance of cracking. None of these bowls cracked though they all moved out of round.Pecan is an especially hard wood when dry. Build a 3 x 10 Welding Table / Bench: Beginner Skills only $300 wortheffort 2022-02-23 | I could use some welding practice and a welding table so why not build my own all metal table / bench. My recycle center (junk yard) had these c-channels that I used for a top and some random I-beams for the base. Less than thirty cents a pound. Basic skill development. It could all went go over a weekend.The big reward was confidence for future projects.
