A playthrough of Dreamworks' 1992 beat 'em up for the Sega Genesis, Mystical Fighter.

This video shows two playthroughs for the best ending. The first, played on the hard level, begins at 1:17. The expert game begins at 39:36.

The expert level is unlocked by completing the game on hard. The expert game has to be finished by two players to see the best version of the true ending, so right after defeating the final boss, I hit Start on controller two to bring in a partner.

The Evil Lord Kabuki is preparing to invade the Mystical Kingdom. The people of the Mystical Kingdom summoned their heroes, Red Lion and White Lion, to save the day. However, just as the lions were closing in, the Evil Lord Kabuki managed to trap them in the underworld. It's your job to help them make their way back.

Mystical Fighter is a belt-scrolling brawler set during the Tokugawa period. It was among the first 16-bit games to be developed by Kid, creators of such games as youtu.be/yEp6RH5Jenk and youtu.be/xhgop0bYjRQ for the NES and youtu.be/OSfpiwXNqG0 for the PC Engine.

As the titular flamboyant kabukimen, your attempt to escape hell involves smacking your way through six stages swarming with zombie samurai, hungry ghosts, Benkei clones, and ninja. The controls are responsive, and your moves smoothly link together to give the action a nice sense of flow. In addition to the garden variety punches and jump kicks, you can roll into slide kicks, launch enemies like missiles through crowds, spin enemies around to protect yourself on all sides, and the izuna drop comes in handy when you need to break up a big crowd. You can also use magical scrolls to unleash a screen clearing spirit attack.

It doesn't have the depth of youtu.be/WagkyX4deuE or youtu.be/2a1YGGNxx9s and the boss fights are a little dull, but Mystical Fighter is a good looking action game with great music, a cool setting, and the gameplay generally remains fun and challenging throughout. I really liked this one!
