A video of me sparring against the witch of love, Marisa Kirisame
Marisa Kirisame is one of the possible stage 5-5 bosses of the game Mystical Chain, a fangame of the Touhou Project created by team Lion Heart. The game is an action game where witches duke it all out to claim the ultimate power... whatever that is. The original series was created by an entity we know as ZUN. He has mysterious persona.
Depending on the team you choose, the final boss of the game will be the character you didn't chose. Therefore, when you pick Patchouli Knowledge and Alice Margatroid, you fight Marisa Kirisame.
Of all the three bosses, in my opinion Marisa ranks in the middle. Her first spell is laughable, her second spell is pretty neat, but ultimately easy, and her last spell is challenging, but so is Alice's last spell. Also that: you are fighting as Alice Margatroid, whose comboing abilities are excellent and more than makes up for her lack of great Spell Card. And in any case, Patchouli's Silent Selene is good enough to take care of Marisa's last spell.
This is the first time you see me playing as Alice, right? Well, there isn't much to say, I play as the stereotypical Alice player: normal combo, 28 attack, rinse and repeat. I also add Alices 86 for good measure, followed by either Patchouli's Light Rain or Patch's normal attack, depends on how close she is to Alice.
Well, I don't really have much to say. I like to reserve my analysis of the characters themselves for the main series, so I won't talk about my full thoughts on Marisa (though I already did some thinking when I fought her in IN)

![TD Demo: Touhou Ten Desires (Hard Mode)
Blank blank blank
A video of me blasting and slashing, and slashing and blasting my way through the Ten Desires demo as our half-ghost gardener, Youmu Konpaku.
Ten Desires [東方神霊廟~ Ten Desires (romanized: Touhou Shinreibyou, lit. Eastern Divine Spirit Temple)], is the thirteen game of the Touhou Project series. The Touhou Project is a series of games where the artwork is much like life, which at the same time is much like a rollercoaster: it has its up and down, is short and sweet, but ultimately let you feeling you could had employed those two hours making the line in something more productive, leaving you hollow and empty. Oh, and flying lolis fight to save the land.
Before the rant, I want to say Hey there, long time no see. As you can hear (or will hear if youre anything like me), this time around I added the regular vocal Lets Play. This will NOT be a normal feature for many reasons:
A) English is not my main language.
B) Playing and talking at the same time is distracting.
C) I cannot give the same depth I give to annotations, which I ended using anyways.
D) English is not my main language.
I added my, oh so cacophonic, voice to the video due to the nature of it. Since it is merely a demo of the game, which hasnt been released, I considered this a nice chance to try it out. Since Fraps hates my guts, I have to run Audacity on the background in order to record. This causes my PC to go on a psychotic breakdown. So yeah... FML.
Anyways, lets talk about the game. Ten Desires take a page from Fairy Wars and keeps part of the interface used in that game. Mainly the whole Circle of Life thing. It combines this with aspect from previous game. Now, call me old fashioned, but I found the original system -128 Power, Individual bombs, Life bar on the top left corner- to be the best. I dont particularly mind the 4.00 system (except when it was linked to the bombs), but the Circle of Life kind of bugs me. Personally, it destroy a little of the immersion for me.
This game has a heavy focus on spirits. After all, the incident this time around is Weird spirit coming out of bodies. Shoot things until you find the culprit. This time around the gimmick is the divine spirit and trance system. Keep in mind I didnt knew this term while blindly playing through the demo because I dont read Japanese. And even if I did. =/
Basically, instead of colored UFOs, we have colored spirits we must collect. 10 pieces of either red or green gives you a life or bomb. Blue ones give you points while white ones raise your spiritual realm bar faster. The spiritual realm is, more or less, a substitute to the deathbomb mechanic. As in, you cannot deathbomb in this game if you have at least one spiritual realm. That sucks.
Getting hit while having at least one Spiritual bar full will activate Trance Mode, where your character will go berserk until the timer runs out. Apparently you can activate Trance Mode if you have full bars or something. All in all, the game mechanics were fun to play with. I particularly loved Youmus slash mechanic. Even though it forces you to play unfocused on long range, it injects freshness to the game. Too bad the other three heroines are a little more of the same.
Overall, the game looks promising. Maybe a little too standard. I dont really like that Im seeing a lot of characters from previous games. The music wasnt anything spectacular, but Im sure thats because I was talking while playing. And I had to let SA music grow on me for me to start liking it. The game is pretty rough and I hope ZUN will polish it more. Too bad this wont happen for the art, which I find a step backward from UFO. Also, is a little on the easy side.
Well, space here is running out. Im looking forward to this game. A lot. Other videos will still have to wait. My teachers are being merciless. I took a Physics test yesterday and I have another one the Monday after Holy Week. And I still have to more tests plus the final exam before the end of the semester on June. And that is only one class. Fun times. Ill try to do as best as I can, but right now Im also hooked with a MMO, Rift... so yeah.

A video of me fighting and slightly less barely defeating the immortal phoenix girl, Fujiwara no Mokou
Fujiwara no Mokou (even her name depicts greatness) is the ex-boss of the game Imperishable Night, the 8th installment of the Touhou Project. The Touhou Project is a series of danmaku shooters. Danmaku is a term than can be loosely translated (and quite aptly in my opinion) into curtain of fire or bullet hell, thus denoting game were high density in bullet is more important that a lot of enemies. The series was created and is managed by the one man team Team Shanghai Alice, composed only of ZUN.
A little Touhou/Japanese folktale history lesson: Mokou is the disliked daughter of an aristocrat. Said aristocrats was humiliated by Kaguya Horaisan, a commoner, when he asked for her hand in matrimony and she responded by giving him an impossible request. Kaguya, being actually a Lunarian princess, went back to the moon and left behind with the emperor the Japanese version of the fountain of youth, the Hourai Elixir. This elixir was scheduled to be destroyed by the emperors order, but was stolen last minute by Mokou, who had made her objective in life to avenge her father and kill Kaguya. This is how Mokou achieved her immortality and created a bitter rivalry with Kaguya, who happens to also be immortal due to the elixir, therefore creating a vicious cycle. [Kaguyas story is HEAVILY based on a Japanese folktale called The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. Wiki for it]
Back to Mokou. Some fans argue whether she is really possessed by a phoenix or not. Personally, I believe she is possessed. This would explain how she gained the ability to manipulate fire. You can clearly see in her spellcards this manipulation, as well as her immortality after each spell since you technically kill her each time...
Another thing about Mokous fight is that her non-spellcards are, IMO, more difficult than most of her spellcards. They move at such an insane speed is absurd. I had captured both Honest Mans Death and Fujiyama Volcano before, but I had never survived without bombs her last non-spellcard. I believe shes unique in that department. Still, out of the three ex-bosses I had battled, I enjoyed this battle the most. It keeps you in your feet with fast paced action. She wasnt as difficult as I expected... but not by much.
