Can't recall when I built the impeller - maybe 4 years ago. Used it for quite a long time, more than 2 years, actually, before it self destructed.
To rebuild I'd use good quality plywood and add an upper ring on top of the vanes. That would add a lot of strength and probably last a lifetime.
