My first Christmas 100% on my own, out of an abusive household and life. It was pretty lonely since I didn’t have family or a group of friends to spend it with. (Granted, I did end up going to someone’s house for a few hours after I went to go see a movie.) I was hoping someone would come see Christmas lights with me, but no takers, so I finally went to the zoo to see them, and walked downtown to find the Christmas tree in the park.
Navigating the holidays was going to be tough especially as a deaf person since on one hand, I don’t want to experience Dinner Table Syndrome because I still likely would’ve felt alone, but seeing people spend happy time with friends and families is a bit of a kick in the chest. On the other hand, the only screaming I had to deal with was from my adorable sick little cat, so… hey.
