On March 11, 2011, police were called to the scene of the Lululemon store in upscale Bethesda, Maryland on the border of Washington DC. Inside the store, they found merchandise and mannequins strewn about the floor, manager Jayna Murray lying face down in a pool of blood, and clerk Brittany Norwood bound but alive in the bathroom. She told the police that two masked men had burst into the store, sexually assaulted Murray, and stabbed both of them, Murray some few hundred times.
I was interviewed that very day by the news media and they asked me why I thought this store and the women were targeted by these men. I stated that something looked odd to me about the crime and it seemed that it was possibly an inside job and that I wasn't sure that the woman found alive might not be involved. I remember the shocked response from the news hosts and how they thought it was quite terrible that I would point the finger at a clear victim.
Turned out I was right! I will go through the elements of this bizarre crime and why I so quickly decided that the story of the two attackers didn't sit right with me.
