Ancient Egyptians buried mummies on top of one another when tombs began running out of space, according to new research.

Scientists studying a burial chamber near Luxor found bodies carefully stacked over centuries rather than placed randomly.

The study also uncovered a mummified dog buried above two people, suggesting some high-status Egyptians may have been laid to rest alongside beloved animals.
