An easy to make multi tool to keep in your pocket for ease of use.
Spanner M4 to M12 nuts
Hex screwdriver bit holder
Slotted screwdriver bit
Set square
Compass
Tin opener
+ bottle opener
Only a small piece of 1.5mm mild steel sheet is required.
Only basic tools are used to make this tool, general metal working tools, rotary power tool, scroll saw converted to use a metal blade, sanders.

BMX Belt Grinder - Stupid Quick Make
Bikes are so good...so many possibilities.
who would have known that a 50mm x 1525mm [2x60] grinding belt would fit the wheel perfectly!
let out the air, fit the belt over the tyre and pump up for a nice snug fit.
Bolt the BMX frame together, stand on end, add a foot pedal from an old front forks, fix on an old long spring and you have a foot powered BMX belt grinder...and a little bit of welding to make the rest fitted to the seat post.
works really nicely and can even work in a power cut!

Tool Box - How to make
In this video I show you how to make a big dovetailed tool box.
I decided that I needed to sort out my hand tools in my workshop and I had a few rough sawn scaffold boards left over from the Scaffold Board Shed project [watch it here - https://youtu.be/ayeNV4fqFiM]
The tool box was to be strong and utilitarian to take all the knocks of a workshop and to be able to be moved around if needed.
Cut up the boards to rough length and biscuit, glue + clamp the boards together for two sides, top, bottom + back panels.
When dry, cut panels over length by 10mm.
Make a dovetail cutting jig for the use of a power saw.
Set the saw blade to the dovetail 1:6 ratio angle.
Mark out the dovetails along the panels and set the depth of the saw to the thickness of the panels plus 5mm [half of the 10mm additional length]
Make the cuts for all of the dovetail tails.
Clamp a straight edge and use a plunge biscuit cutter power tool to accurately cut the shoulders.
Turn over and do the same on the other side as the biscuit cutter can only cut half way through.
Finally use a hand saw to make the final cuts into the corners.
Use these panels to mark out the corresponding pins, set the saw blade to 90 degrees and the jig to the 1:6 ratio and cut all of the pins.
Use the biscuit cutter and hand saw as before to cut out the waste.
Big heavy lump hammer to bash them all together with some glue, check corners for square and clamp.
Mark out the dovetails on the rear panel, and cut as before.
Place on the dried carcass and mark the pins and cut as well.
Big hammer and glue to get it all together.
Now you have a heavy and very strong box for tools.
Make some drawers.
The top drawer is designed with a flap down front so when in use I can access the most used tools directly without having to have the drawer pulled fully open.
Simply ply base and rough cut sides and back, glued and screwed together.
Fit some fully extending drawer runners and fit to the box.
Make the other three drawers same though with fixed fronts, bottom two drawers are deeper for bigger tools!
Fit with runners and fit to the box.
Now for some heavy duty funky handles made from old mountain bike knobby tires [tyres].
Cut off the rims and cut four lengths.
Glue the walls together with some silicone adhesive and clamp until dry.
Fix to the drawer fronts with nuts, bolts and washers.
They work really well and are comfy to the touch.
A last finishing touch to add some cool graphics, make a paper stencil and spray a big TOOL up the front and a nice hidden logo on the drop down top drawer front.
Fill the tool box up with tools to give a tidy workshop and every tool that you need to use, just where it should be...to hand.

Coat stand made with Kreg R3 jig
Our kids just dump their school jackets and bags on the floor and sofa!
A compromise was needed to be found and what better than to help my son build a cool little coat stand that he would be happy to use [it has worked!]
I was really fortunate to win a Kreg R3 pocket hole jig from Instructables for my bike wardbrobe...

...and I wanted to play with it and see if I could use it in a more unusual application.
We wanted the coat stand to look cool in the room and not to look like a coat stand when not in use.
The idea was for a heavy base to make it self supporting with four poles at differing angles to add interest to the sculptural form.
We used an off cut of off sawn scaffold board from the Scaffold Board Shed that I am building for a client.
Cut it in half and thickness flat.
Shoot in the meeting edges to make a tight joint.
Clamp the Kreg jig to one board and drill a pocket hole right through and carry on down the length for three or four more times.
Mark the opposing board inbetween the already drilled holes and drill out with the Kreg jig.
We also did a few on the backside as well for added strength.
Glue the edge and cramp together.
Using the auger bit from the Kreg jig drill the holes deeper into the opposing board.
Cut up some 9mm doweling and glue them in using a small hammer to knock home.
Leave to dry.
When dried remove clamps and cut off the dowels flush with the board.
Cut the board to the desired length.
I found that there was a shake right through one part of the board.
Taking off the side wings of the Kreg jig clamp beside the shake and drill as before, we did three holes along the shake to stitch it together.
We squirted some glue into the shake and glued and hammered in doweling into the pocket holes, cutting them off flush.
Using a sander, sand the faces flat and smooth, also give the edges a good sand finishing off by hand to slightly round over the arriss.
The 20mm dowel for the coat poles was too large for the Kreg jig!
So we made a big Kreg block jig out of a scrap of the scaffold board.
Mark the distance that is required for the poles to be positioned back from the edge.
Mark the two differing angles one on each end and transfer the lines around to the top measuring in about 50mm.
Using a 20mm auger drill two holes angled to the corresponding angles marked.
We used four poles and so marked out equal distances along the back edge of the base board.
Line up the jig block with the marks and cramp securely.
Work out the depth required to make a stopped pocket hole and stick on some tape to the auger as a guide.
Drill each hole making sure to alternate the angles.
Cut the 20mm dowel in half giving us about 1200mm lengths.
Sand one end of each pole to make a pleasing rounded shape.
Glue the poles into the holes.
All done.
Clear the space for the coat stand and stand back and watch as your son admires their wood working skills.
This was a great and simple project to make with my son and he now uses it mainly I believe because he made it.
The stitching of the boards together with the Kreg R3 pocket hole jig worked really well and I like the elongated doweling shapes that mark the surface.
