If you hear that tune coming from deep inside a tangled thicket, you might be near a Mourning Warbler.
đż Mourning Warblers are notoriously difficult to spot, despite being fairly common across parts of North America. They spend most of their lives hidden low in dense vegetation â so secretive that scientists still havenât fully documented certain parts of their breeding behavior.
These warblers are also known as a âfugitive species,â which means they are constantly on the move in search of young, shrubby forests created by fires, storms, and other disturbances. Once the forest grows back and the brush disappears, the Mourning Warblers move on, too.
They breed in the boreal forests of Canada and the northern U.S. before migrating thousands of miles to Central and northwestern South America.
