To celebrate the release of the new Mortal Kombat movie I wanted to start archiving the game series. Today we begin with Mortal Kombat 9 which presented an amazing story mode that has only evolved more over the years. The story is a basic retelling of the original Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 as we take part in the tournament and fight as all our favorite characters. You switch from fighter every 3 fights or so and this adds variety as you will have a complete new move set and look.
The cutscenes themselves are of very high quality and it is a great way to present a campaign for those who like their single player fighters. I often only play the campaigns in these types of games, but they are almost always underwhelming. I also love the character design in this game and it feels like a bygone era. Probably one of the weakest bits and strangest choices is that you cannot restart the campaign once you start it. You actually have to play all the way through and then you can start from the beginning again.
