One of the best state parks in Nevada is located between Panaca and Pioche on Highway 93, Cathedral Gorge. The best and more accessible way to explore the stunning bentonite cliffs is to hike into either the Moon Caves region of the park, or the Cathedral Caves region. Fair warning, neither of these spots really feature "caves", but instead amazing sedimentary rock slot canyons that one can spend hours exploring. Due to its location, visitors should definitely visit Cathedral Gorge on the way to Great Basin National Park, but should take proper precautions to avoid heatstroke and stay hydrated, as temperatures in the park regularly exceed 90 degrees. For those that are willing to take that risk, the reward is an otherworldly expanse of exploration.
