This monster does not belong in this world OR these wilds:

(Unpaid DLC, not optional. You're stuck with her regardless. She will not be patche dout in any version of any game ever. Please understand.)

What? Monster Hunter Rise in this year of AD2101?! What?!

This is actually dedicated to a friend of mine who was revisiting this game, kinda rushed through as much content as possible, and then found Primordial Malzeno to be something of a roadblock.

I felt motivated enough to put together a proof of concept video when I finally had a moment. Nearly a month later. After having talked a lot of vague theory on a game I hadn't played in quite some time. Feeling just a LITTLE compelled to put my zenny where my mouth was and make sure I wasn't just full of it. (Sometimes, I suspect I am.)

---

Baseline requirements: he uses Seregios armor as his favored set... which I sympathize with. I often make one set of armor for as many possible situations as possible before worrying about specific cases.

I consider it a fair starting point as a higher-end but not absolutely top-shelf armor set as far as raw defense goes. It actually has fewer decoration slots than I expected, but the slots it DOES have are rather large.

He also uses Insect Glaive, and I actuallly DO have one of his Glaives... ... ... although "only" the Rarity 9 variant. I was NOT grinding for a Bloodstone on a whim.

I also set aside my preferred comfort talisman and found an absolute middle-of-the-road slot-haver with skills that were almost entirely inapplicable to this hunt so that I could just replicate the "welp, this is the talisman I have, deal with it" effect.

---

Anyway, let's talk shop.

First and foremost. This is not even remotely meta. (I don't even know what meta is!)

This is purely about comfortable survivability, and as such, what I consider baseline necessity towards that end is as much raw Defense as you can stack.

However, the KEY to surviving and even thriving against Malzeno or ANY Anomaly monster is the result of the signature Bloodblight ailment. It drains your health, it reduces the efficacy of healing items, AND most attacks that cause it will have JUST dealt tons of damage to you.

That's where Recovery Up comes in. It counters the Bloodblight in two important ways: it boosts your healing items back from subpar up to par excellence.

It also affects the OTHER effect of Bloodblight. You gain a lifesteal effect. You are now a vampire. And Recovery Up boosts THIS as well. Depending on your style and weapon choice, you may not need the previous benefit at all.

In case you DO want the extra manual healing as you're used to, Free Meal is a nice, if unnecessary comfort buffer against using a LOT of items because this monster deals a LOT of damage.

The name of the game here is to mitigate and remediate, don't worry if it takes you longer than you may want. His mode shift soft DPS check is irrelevant. The point is to keep fighting without falling to pieces under the weight of these attacks.

---

It's been a VERY long time since using this specific flavor of Glaive moveset, so I don't even use most of its kit appropriately, but ANYONE on ANY game should be able to understand: get red, hit a lot, disengage and reengage when appropriate.

Resist the urge to become an attack helicopter. The moves you can avoid entirely while in the air are NOT worth the loss of overall damage or, more importantly, the part where you can't see the attack telegraphs that are designed around a grounded player's perspective. You are a weirder, slower Dual Blade with a strange Demon mode activation condition today. Please understand.

---

Use your easy mounts of the OTHER monsters! That's a lot of free damage! And mounts from turf wars! New monsters swap in every 20 minutes! Revel in how little damage they do to you next to Malzeno!

0:00 - general loadout and menu struggles

Yes, I put a single one-slot decoration into a four-sized socket. Wanna fight about it?

4:28 - getting our feet wet

It's been a LONG time since I played this one, and I'm astonished just how much FASTER and more FLUID it feels. Not performance, but in monster animations and attacks and player movement economy. The rhythm and muscle memory of this game is totally different.

I forgot about the supply box entirely.

I get hit a LOT. As this is essentially the combo platter bonus final exam of knowing how to move and wirefall in this game. If you don't, you WILL die. And waste a lot of silk doing it. Detention!

Yes, I actually DID cart once because my controller ran out of batteries at the absolute worst possible time.

I also got a zero-skills meal one time! I feel so lucky!

15:36 - the actual run's quest prep, including meal skills

(and an editing error where i played the same clip of eating dango twice in a row, oops!)

16:57 - the actual quest, finally

57:03 - I am a goober and failure at gestures, posing, and camera mode
