Colleagues and friends,
We closed out the academic year in style, and I’m delighted to share the highlights with you in the latest edition of Mondays with Mark.
On Friday, May 26, we sent our new graduates into the world with a beautiful ceremony at the Mondavi Center. It included an inspiring speech about doing good while enjoying the career journey by our featured speakers, Drs. Terrence Ferguson and Vernard Hodges of Nat Geo Wild’s Critter Fixers.
While they were here, Drs. Ferguson and Hodges also did outreach work with high school and UC Davis students interested in veterinary medicine.
That same week, we celebrated our retiring Executive Associate Dean, Dr. John Pascoe, after more than 40 years of service. Congratulations and thank you, John!
Last month, the school also celebrated Diversity Week, led by a slate of activities coordinated by our students. They took over the school’s Instagram channel, creating a week-long opportunity for the greater community to follow along.
Finally, we proudly announced that PetSmart Charities donated $6 million to create the PetSmart Charities Endowed Chair in Accessible Veterinary Care. Their landmark gift will increase our ability to build innovative, compassionate care for all pets, ensure hands-on clinical training for veterinary students, and develop research models that can scale nationwide.
