Originally the castle was a monastery and the current tower was the bell tower. During the fifteenth century, a first defensive structure was added by the Marquis del Carretto to which followed subsequent renovations and extensions, such as the medieval arc that unites the castle to the tower. The tower, 27 meters high in Lombardy style, has friezes and hanging arches made of bricks and stones. Today the castle has a seventeenth -century facade and maintains the sixteenth -century loggia on the back which can also be visited. The Carletto family in the middle of the 19th century ceded the property to the Rovere family followed by the Polleri family of Genoa who sold it to the Municipality, current owner. In front of the castle, the characteristic raised bridge and to access inside it is necessary to cross the old entrance door in the ancient walls. The visit begins along the external perimeter of the castle to understand the location and history of the structure over the centuries. Then you enter the noble floors, whose rooms, transformed in the seventeenth century, have mosaic floors and sailing ceilings and cruise frescoed with floral and geometric motifs. The visit continues with the walkways on the top and ends in the spacious cellars.
