This video shows some sparks on how to mold an armrest piece. General and basic molding procedures are taught in our upholstery courses.
This armrest has not a flat surface but an irregular contour. The easier way would be to do the main panel in two pieces joined in the center of front part. The cardstock paper would have been useful for this method.
I wanted to do the main panel in one piece, then I have had to resort to the 'stretchy side of vinyl' as you can see.
For the lateral pieces I used cardstock paper.
The 'V notches' or 'reference points' are of vital importance to ease the sewing process.
As the main vinyl panel was stretched, then at the sewing time I must make meet the 'V notches' by stretching a little the vinyl material.
