Unplugged Performance, with our development driver, Craig Coker, placed P1 in the @Gridlife Pacific Championship. This time-attack championship series consists of three events at three iconic tracks across California: Willow Springs Raceway, Laguna Seca Raceway, and Thunderhill Raceway.
We had a successful weekend! Despite being both Craig's and Dark Helmet's first rendezvous Thunderhill Raceway, Craig achieved, not only first place in Unlimited class, but managed to get the fastest lap overall at the event with a time of 1:47.5. Additionally, Craig's lap set a new Unlimited AWD Gridlife record, and established Dark Helmet as the fastest EV and fastest sedan to ever lap Thunderhill Raceway.
Even we are constantly blown away by the fierce nature of Dark Helmet. It's hard to believe this is based on a family sedan, with a stock factory powertrain, and aside from the gutted interior, massive aero and impressive Yokohama slicks, all the modifications are off-the-shelf UP parts designed for dual purpose street and track use.
Being our first time chasing lap times at Thunderhill, we have lots of room for improvement and have barely scratched the surface of Dark Helmets potential at this track. Rest assured you’ll be seeing us again at Thunderhill in the future with increasing confidence and faster lap times to come.
Records aside, we thank Gridlife for hosting and organizing the many events during the year. It's truly special to see enthusiasts have the opportunity to chase lap times together and create a community focused around performance and motorsports. Although being the outlier EV in the midst of MANY ICE cars, we have been warmly welcomed and the community has been supportive in our efforts in changing the next generation of racing.
Being the last competitive event of the year, we are more than happy with the results that Craig, our UP Race Team, Yokohama and Dark Helmet have produced. Setting many track records, we are just getting started and can’t wait to see what new records the new year will bring.
