In yet another partnership with Custom Track Jams, I will be making a lap 1 TAS of every winning track of Series 3! The third track, winning Season 1 Jam 3 (Fire + Ice), is Phendrana Frostbite by Fuffina and ISC.
I never actually lost motivation to finish this lap, but rather ran out of time to do it, and then preferred to do other things instead. Having run out of other things to do, I came back to this to finally get it over and done with.
Some things to note:
- The first turn and the following straight are really annoying. Those bounces are not as trivial as they might look
- I'm not sure whether the triple hop to take the second turn really is fastest, but that seemed to be better than taking a wider line
- The flip ramp section just LOOKS improvable, but I couldn't get anything faster than the most basic of trick sequences
- The trick inside the tunnel can actually ride the wall for a little longer, extending the trick boost farther, and technically distributing the boost more optimally, but unfortunately the line taken actually loses more than the additional boost saves, making a very cool strategy slower
- The two double tricks at the end are both incredibly finicky, and just like the beginning, are harder than they look
- In order to align for lap 2, I lost 2-3 frames. I was very lucky to be able to get below 36 seconds because of this

Made this just for fun. Would have been more optimised but I realised this track is a total pain to TAS and I have other more important things I could be doing (such as working on Task 24 of the TAS competition, or more importantly, working on lap 1 of the rBC glitch 3lap). I may make a 3lap with this level of optimisation on laps 2 and 3 in January but well see when that time comes.
I may have spent more time trying to get into the star shortcut than I did on the run itself...

Ive spent multiple week long bursts across the past few months on this track and am very happy with the result. I found a lot of new strats across both laps so theres plenty going on, all of which will be answered in the comments since I doubt I can write up a good desc on this TAS. Only thing I can say here is I have no idea if the shroomspots I use are optimal because there are so plenty different pacelocks that I could be approaching wrong.
Special thanks to; Ejay for a lot of motivation during lap 1 and helping me form strat ideas (most of which never got used), Campbell for the optimal wheelie turn patterns used at the end of lap 2, and all the people I called with while making/streaming the TAS for the motivation to finish lap 1 and complete lap 2. Also, shoutout to Burger for getting the closest time guess of 2:10.696!

For multiple years Ive wanted to have a crack at this category (ever since I made my first Spear 3lap here back in December 2019). In January 2021, I decided to try to make a test flap for fun and after about half an hour got down to a 34.481. About a month later, I actually optimised this and got it down to a 34.247. @TASSnoop then redid the lap setup and got an almost optimal first trick but I was too occupied with the rBC ultra 3lap and MMM SG 3lap to work on it.
Fastforward to March 2022, I wanted to try to revive some forgotten WIPs and had a crack at the first turn again. There I found that it was actually slower to do the previously assumed faster bounce at the end of the first shroom, followed by finding it actually was faster by a few frames but only if you released a miniturbo upon landing (rather than having to charge it for several frames). This progress only reached the entrance to the cave and then my motivation for RT projects was lost when the ODB strat revolution (new supergrinds, superhopping, etc.) happened soon after. That is, until last month, when I returned to make the new sub 22 MMM flap.
Almost right when I finished the MMM flap, I realised @JMM435s new TAS (34.480) had only beat my half hour attempt by a single millisecond, so my motivation spiked enough for me to get back into TASing the track. Completely forgetting about the bounce strat WIP, I redid the beginning of the lap from scratch (working off Snoops ghost, which I did remember about) and optimising until the cave entrance yet again. At this point, I remembered the WIP and found it to be 1 frame faster after the first shroom. I modified my redone beginning and managed to get it to save another frame over the former WIP.
From here, I finally progressed through the lap linearly. I got to perform some strats for the first time (for me and in TASes overall):
- the aforementioned first shroom bounce strat with instant MT release (new)
- the full RSTA cave entrance trick (new for me)
- the slip double MT in the cave (new for me)
- the full RFH low after the moving platforms (new for me)
- @mkwLukes last shroom offroad bounce strat (new for me) with full STA (not actually new, thomas just reverted to wta for some reason)
- a drift trick exiting the offroad bounce strat (new, very precise)
Expect to see more flap TASes from me in the coming months, and also look out for more TAS Competition videos since the next one is right on its way and regular competition resumes in January.

Like with the rDH NG flap, I felt like TASing the track, so went in with no improvements in mind, simply TASed the flap, and ended up saving a good amount of time. Unfortunately, I started this TAS before @Alego11-TAS showed automatic to be faster for flap, which is why itll be obsoleted very soon. Im not entirely surprised, as there was never any indication that manual was ever faster - Estaloys 2018 flap was just unoptimised, which made it easy to beat with manual. However, I really wanted to have a go at optimising a manual TAS of this track, so didnt branch out into testing automatic as one might have done if they were TASing it to see the limit rather than TASing it for the sake of TASing (I also really like the look of manual strats over automatic strats for this category in particular).

So yeah, end of the year coming up, I was looking at CT ultra flaps, and found the lap 3 of my 3lap (from the very beginning of this year) to be the fastest lap for this category. Of course, the first thing I wanted to do was make another TAS! Oh wait, its not a no glitch category, which means superhopping is faster... oh wait, the optimal combo is outside drift so I cant make an excuse for not using it... ughhhhh... WHY SUPERHOP, WHY.
Pain aside, I started off by getting the setup for the ultra location I used to get it shroomless (https://youtu.be/WBmqZb7UD7A), and then testing if it was faster to enter the lap with a mushroom boost (assuming it would be). Turns out, theres not enough space to slow down from 120 if you cross the finish line with 120 speed. So, now I had to test entering with less speed.
I managed to get 100 speed to barely work, but then realised I would likely benefit from a superhop entry due to starting the turnaround half way turned around. It didnt turn out as planned. First, superhopping made it much more difficult to actually slow down in time. Second, if I did slow down, I was in the completely wrong spot. So, I had to test whether SH or non SH entry was actually faster. You obviously just watched a SH entry so that was the conclusion (this may still be wrong, I was already getting quite annoyed at the run at this point).
Next up was the ultra itself. I hadnt actually thought of how I was going to do it with this method, as I had only ever used a trick boost to both start a drift and also start one far from the finish line (and at a low speed). My first solution was using a barrel roll to turn myself around, but that was forcing me to either hop late and cross over the finish line, or hop early and have no resulting speed. My final solution was getting really good QM and just sticking to the ground in order to turn and also accelerate.
Getting through the OOB wall here requires a specific ratio of sideways (FWG) and forwards (SWG) speed. The shroomless method with phantom can be done facing more forward so can have more speed with less sideways momentum. As I am using the shooting star, I could not just do that so had to intentionally halt my acceleration and exit the ground at a low speed. As a result of this, the 2nd mushroom used is barely useful, and only a result of optimising the respawn. For the majority of the time working on this, only 1 mushroom was used in the lap.
The ending section was originally done from scratch (to a 17.388, including superhopping), but then I remembered I could splice the KCP hit from the end of the 3laps lap 3, and did that (to get a 17.651). The superhopping here was actually really difficult to figure out, as there isnt much room (from where the SSMT leaves you) to start a sequence of superhops without hitting the wall on the right. This is why I seem to start it late, though it actually saves time by not going far to the left (which would force me to counterhop at least once or twice before the last turn). This is the first time I have performed the currently optimal inputs for superhopping, and also the first time I have tried optimising the angle and spin hop inputs to make for a tighter turn.
I was stuck at 17.205 and seeing as its a superhopping TAS, I knew there would be something left to improve. I was still unsure about the lap entry strat, and had considered a completely different combo (some other character on the phantom) for a faster OOB bypass and tighter last turn, since Funky Kongs speed bonus and Shooting Stars speed stat are never used. So, I decided to leave it there, and have fun with the vertical inputs, at the cost of about two tenths of a millisecond (no difference in final time).
Hope you all enjoyed this TAS, even with so many potential improvements. I didnt exactly enjoy making it, but am satisfied with the final product nonetheless :)

Following the upload of my improved LC TAS in June, Cow Man suggested I improve the MG NG TAS with left route. I jumped straight into a new TAS. By the end of the month, I had made it to the end of lap 2. I didnt come back to finish lap 3 until this week, but Im done now!
Improvements since the 1:11 TAS:
- Double miniturbo on the first turns (found lap 1)
- Much lower trick on first mushroom (found lap 2)
- Double miniturbo after first mushroom (found lap 1), and slip drift strat (found lap 3)
- Triple miniturbo in cave (found lap 1)
- Left route in cave (found by RTA players before TAS started)
- Mushroom abuse on second cave mushroom (found lap 1)
- Penultimate mushroom skip (found lap 1)
- Much better gap cut (found lap 1), and also clip turn lap 3 strat
Please let me know in the comments if you have no interest in 200cc TASes. I will not do them if you do not want to see them. I enjoy making videos other people enjoy, so just saying do what you enjoy is not what I need :) Be open about your opinions on my content!

Surprised?
The main timesave in this run comes from the improved supergrind, with a slight timesave also coming from the new slip chain strat on the split path turn.
The beginning of this run was actually made by myself in late March 2020, however because the angle for the first shroom clip was so incredibly bad, by the time early April came, I gave up on this good supergrind setup and went back to Marth and my old one to make the 37.262 flap.
At the beginning of the day today, I decided to look at the bad setup to see if I could get anything new to happen and to my surprise I was able to get the clip to not hit the fountain wall in about 10 minutes. I then continued to optimise the rest of the run, finding the slip chain strat in the process, and got the sub 37.2 that I have wanted to see for a very long time.
Because everything in this run was done by myself, sadly Marth is no longer an author, so Id like to give special thanks to him for discovering the supergrind in June 2019 and working with me on the original 37.878 run, which started my journey to specialising in them today.
