In this video, I show you how to setup the NEC PC-88 computer emulator on the Mister FPGA.
The NEC PC-88 was a 8 bit computer with Zilog 80 processor released in November 1981 in Japan by NEC corporation.
The computer Mister FPGA is emulating is the NEC PC-8801mkIISR, which was released in 1985 with improved audio and video capacities. It came with 64 KB of RAM, and 48 KB of video RAM. It had the Yamaha YM2203 FM sound synthesizer, which made games on this computer sound really good. There were 3 models, model 10, model 20, and model 30.
Model 10 didn't come with a 5.25" floppy drive, the model 20 came with one 5.25" floppy disk drive, and the model 30 came with two 5.25" floppy disk drives.
As for the NEC PC-88 series of computers, they were produced in November 1981 to 1989 with the last model being the PC-8801 MC. It came with a NEC µPD70008 8 MHz processor, 192 KB of RAM, 48 KB of VRAM, Yamaha FM (YM2608) sound synthesizer, joystick port, 2 5.25" floppy disk drives, and a CD-ROM drive.
The successor to the NEC PC-88 was the NEC PC-98 released in Oct 1982. It started as a 16 bit computer in 1982, and was discontinued in Sept 30, 2003.
