In this video, I show you how to setup and run the PC XT emulator core for the Mister FPGA console.
The IBM PC XT was released in 1983, and it was discontinued in 1986. They used the Intel 8088 processor, and later models used the 80286 6 MHz processor. They initially came with 128 KB of RAM, and later models came with 640 KB of RAM. The most advanced models came with 10 or 20 MB hard drives. In 1983, the one that came with a 10 MB hard drive cost about $4,995. The one that came with 20 MB came with 80286 6 MHz processor, and 640 KB of RAM. That cost about $7,500 in 1986.
These computers were meant for home users, but they did have IBM PC XT compatibles. They were substantially less expensive, but still cost $1,500 to $2,500. The real IBM PC XT computers were big businesses or government agencies. The PC XT was created to be a business computer, so it didn't have a dedicated audio chip. The PC XT came with a monotone speaker which produced 1 bit sound with 1 channel. It was able to produce some crude tones.
PC games in the early 1980s to the mid 1980s were mostly role playing games, or graphical interactive adventure games. The action games for IBM PCs and PC compatibles in this time line sucked. The video game consoles had a monopoly on those types of games. The NES, and Sega Master System were the video game consoles people played action games on.
