In this video, I play arcade air battles on the Golan Heights map with the Mig-29K (9-41R) . This is the aircraft carrier version of the Mig-29, it is heavier than the Mig-29 (9-13), and it has 2 more hard points. It is less agile compared to the original Mig-29 (9-12) & (9-13), and it is heavier as well. The original RD-33 engine for the Mig-29 had smoke coming out of it, but the newer RD-33MK engine doesn't have this problem. The RD-33MK has more thrust than the RD-33 jet engine, but the fuel efficient is similar.
The Mig-29K is a little bigger than the Mig-29 (9-13), but it is smaller than the Su-27/30. The Su-27/30 can carry about 10 missiles to 14 missiles. The Mig-29K can only carry 8 missiles, but the Mig-29 has other advantages, like a higher climb rate, better agility, and a higher speed. The climb rate for the Mig-29K is 335 meters/second, while the climb rate for the Su-30SM is 205 meters/second. The Mig-29K has a top speed of Mach 2.15 @ 10,000 meters, while the Su-30SM has a top speed of Mach 2.0 @ 10,000 meters. As for agility, it depends. The Su-30SM and Su-30SM2 has thrust vectoring, so it has good agility despite being a heavier aircraft.
Some of the disadvantages of the Mig-29K is that it has a shorter range compared to the Su-27/30. The Mig-29 was never meant to be a long range strike fighter. It was designed to be frontline fighters that was suppose maintain air superiority. It was designed to be a defensive aircraft. It was suppose to provide fighter support against close air support aircraft, strike aircraft, and fighter bombers in the battlefield. It could also be used to clear the skies of enemy fighters in front line operations.
A strike aircraft, like a Su-27 or Su-30 were designed to go deep into enemy territory, and contest air space behind enemy lines. They have to be bigger, carry more fuel, and carry more weapons. The strike aircraft is offensive in nature, while the light fighter is defensive in nature.
