What should you do if you get lost in port, separated from a cruise excursion, injured, delayed, or realize you might miss the ship? In this video, I’m sharing practical cruise port safety tips every cruise passenger should know before stepping off the ship.
Most cruise port days go smoothly, but things can happen. You could get separated from your tour group, lose track of your bus, have trouble finding transportation, deal with a language barrier, get hurt on an excursion, or discover that ship time and local time are not the same.
I’ll share a real situation from one of our cruise excursions where another couple got separated from the group and had to find their own way back to the ship. Thankfully, they made it back safely — but it was a good reminder that every cruise passenger should have a basic port-day backup plan.
In this video, we’ll talk about what to do before leaving the ship, including saving the ship’s port agent number, taking screenshots of the all-aboard time, confirming ship time versus local time, saving your tour operator’s contact information, and taking “breadcrumb photos” of your tour bus, guide sign, meeting spot, and landmarks.
We’ll also cover what to do if you get separated in port, how location sharing may help when traveling with another person, why a translator app and offline maps are useful, when to ask another guide for help, and why travel insurance, embassy or consulate information, medications, cash, credit cards, and a portable charger should be part of your port-day safety plan.
This is not about being afraid to explore. It’s about being prepared enough to enjoy your cruise port day with confidence.
