When I got married in 2003 one of my mother's cousins came from Pakistan to the wedding here in London and she brought me a shawl And the shawl was a plain colored shawl but it had this very lovely embroidered border which had been stitched on and she said This border is all that remains of the sari that my mother my great aunt was given at the time of your grandparents wedding So Shahid and Tara my grandparents got married in 1940 and the groom's parents gave each of his five sisters a sari to mark the occasion or to wear at the wedding And the silk had gone over the years but the border remained and Sharmeen the daughter of this great aunt had removed it and stitched it on a sari and she gave it to me and she said you know This is a fragment of a gift to mark your grandparents wedding.
