Ideas of Eve: Evolutionary Feminism
Cat Bohannon and Sonora Jha in conversation with Patricia Limerick

The female body has historically served as both canvas and battleground onto which the world splatters shifting ideas of control, power, and knowledge. Researcher and scholar Cat Bohannon rewrites the oversight of women’s bodies in evolutionary biology once again with Eve, a friendly, funny, engaging ,and multidisciplinary account of how our bodies came to be.
Academic and novelist Sonora Jha, author of How To Raise A Feminist Son, reimagines what it means to raise boys with feminist values in today’s world. In her novels, The Laughter, and the forthcoming Intemperance, she writes characters that push the boundaries of female desire. Together, in conversation with Patricia Limerick, they discuss the politics of gender in literature, and the role played by women in reshaping cultural narratives across history.

Cat Bohannon is an award winning researcher and author. She completed her PhD in 2022 at Columbia University, where she studied the evolution of narrative and cognition. Eve is her first book, and is a New York Times bestseller.

Sonora Jha is the author of four books, most recently the novel The Laughter, which won the 2024 Washington State Book Award for Fiction, and was named one of the best books of 2023 by the New Yorker, NPR, and others. Her previous books are the memoir, How to Raise a Feminist Son and the novel Foreign. Her latest novel, Intemperance, will be out from Harper Via on October 14. Dr. Jha is a Loyola Endowed Professor at Seattle University, and lives in Seattle.

The author of the influential book, The Legacy of Conquest, Patricia Limerick is a Professor of History, and the Director of the Applied History Initiative, at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She is devoted to the enterprise of applying historical perspectives to contemporary dilemmas and conflicts.
