Andrew Quintman, Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Religion at Wesleyan University, has built an extensive body of work on Buddhist literature and history, sacred geography, and visual culture. In this session, he discusses the power of
storytelling in literature and art to evoke spiritual landscapes and journeys of awakening. Quintman draws on examples from the life story of the Buddha to explore different forms of creative expression and the interplay between narrative, image, and spiritual experience, highlighting stories that transcend the cultural boundaries of India and Tibet and translate text into image and back again.
Andrew Quintman is a scholar of Buddhism in Tibet and the Himalayas and an associate professor and chair of the Department of Religion at Wesleyan University. He writes, teaches, and lectures widely about Buddhist literature and history, sacred geography, pilgrimage, and the visual cultures of the Himalayan region.
Anne C. Klein is a Professor and former chair of the religion department at Rice University. She is also a lama in the Nyingma tradition and a founding director and resident teacher of Dawn Mountain, Houston. Her publications include Path to the Middle; Unbounded Wholeness, coauthored with Geshe Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche; and Knowledge and Liberation. Her most recent books are Heart Essence of the Vast Expanse: A story of transmission and Being Human and a Buddha Too.
