Minneapolis forms the "Twin Cities" with Minnesota's state capital, St. Paul. Its official population is almost half-a-million with 3.6 million in the metro area. Minneapolis has one of the largest LGBT populations in the U.S. and is known for its strong music and performing arts scenes. Reflecting the region's status as a center of folk, funk, and alternative rock music, the city served as the launching pad for several of the 20th century's most influential musicians, including Bob Dylan and Prince. Minneapolis produced many influential hip hop artists, like Lizzo, Brother Ali, Atmosphere, and Dessa. Renowned today for its investment in biking infrastructure, the city is was awarded the coveted 'Best Biking City in the United States' award in 2018.
