For more than 60 years, Carowinds has thrilled ride-lovers with more more than 400 acres of roller coasters, skytowers, performance attractions and water rides. The park sits between North and South Carolina and gets its name from the portmanteau of ‘Carolina’ and ‘wind’. The red coaster at the entrance is called ‘The Intimidator’ after North Carolina native Dale Earnhardt Junior and reaches 232 feet and travels at more than 75 miles per hour. The yellow coaster, Afterburn, is the fastest inverted steel coaster in the southeast at 60 miles per hour. Entrance to the park also gets you a ticket into Carolina Harbor, the 27-acre waterpark adjacent to Carowinds. The waterpark features a wave bay, lazy river and more thrilling water tube and slide rides, like Storm Surge and Blackbeard’s Revenge. Each year, their special events, Scarowind for Winterfest, attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors. You can get a season pass for just about 100 bucks or go on a Thursday to get in for just $30 including parking!
