Los Angeles, Hollywood, Dolby Theater, June 28 2026

The iconic Dolby Theatre was awash in unmistakable Minion yellow on Sunday evening as Universal Pictures and Illumination celebrated the Hollywood premiere of Minions & Monsters, the latest chapter in one of the most successful animated franchises in cinema history. With the famous yellow henchmen trading laboratories for the golden age of moviemaking, the event felt like an affectionate love letter to Hollywood itself, bringing together filmmakers, voice actors and longtime collaborators who have helped transform the Minions into one of animation's most recognizable global brands.

The premiere featured an impressive gathering of the film's cast and creative team, led by Zoey Deutch, who embraced the spirit of the evening by arriving in a striking Minion-yellow gown that instantly became one of the night's defining visual moments. Joining her on the red carpet were Academy Award winners Jeff Bridges and Allison Janney, alongside Bobby Moynihan, Jesse Eisenberg, Phil LaMarr, Trey Parker, and the architect of the Minions phenomenon himself, Pierre Coffin. Jimmy Tatro, fiancé of Zoey Deutch, also attended in support. The group photographs reflected the remarkably eclectic ensemble assembled for the production, combining Oscar winners, celebrated comedians, acclaimed dramatic actors and veteran animation performers. Rather than focusing solely on celebrity glamour, the evening celebrated the creative journey behind a franchise that has continued evolving more than fifteen years after audiences first heard the Minions' unforgettable gibberish.

For Pierre Coffin, the premiere represented another milestone in an extraordinary relationship with Illumination. Having directed the first three Despicable Me films as well as the original Minions, he once again returns behind the camera while simultaneously providing the instantly recognizable voices of every Minion, a role he has performed continuously since their cinematic debut in 2010. Few filmmakers occupy such a unique creative position, serving simultaneously as director, co-writer and performer. His collaboration with screenwriter Brian Lynch, who previously penned both Minions and The Secret Life of Pets films, demonstrates Illumination's commitment to maintaining the distinctive comedic identity that has become synonymous with the franchise. Produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri alongside Bill Ryan, Minions & Monsters continues a creative partnership that has helped generate more than $5.6 billion at the worldwide box office across the Despicable Me and Minions series, making it the highest-grossing animated franchise in history.

Rather than simply delivering another adventure, Minions & Monsters travels back to the 1920s, decades before the events of the original Minions, placing the yellow mischief-makers at the heart of Old Hollywood during the silent film era. Their dream of producing the greatest monster movie ever made inevitably spirals into glorious chaos when fictional monsters escape into the real world, forcing the same accident-prone characters responsible for the disaster to become unlikely heroes. The premise cleverly allows Illumination to celebrate classic Hollywood while simultaneously parodying its mythology, filling the film with affectionate references to silent cinema, vintage monster movies and the earliest days of the American film industry. Early audiences and critics have noted the film's numerous visual nods to pioneers such as Charlie Chaplin, Harold Lloyd and Buster Keaton, making this one of the franchise's most cinephile-friendly entries while never losing sight of the slapstick energy that defines the Minions.

The vocal ensemble reflects that same balance between prestige and playful unpredictability. Jeff Bridges lends authority as the head of a major Hollywood studio, while Christoph Waltz voices a demanding film director. Trey Parker, returning to the franchise after previously voicing Balthazar Bratt in Despicable Me 3, plays one of the film's central monster characters, while Allison Janney reunites with the Minions after previously voicing Madge Nelson in the original Minions. Zoey Deutch, Jesse Eisenberg, Bobby Moynihan and Phil LaMarr complete a remarkably diverse cast whose collective experience ranges from independent dramas to television comedy and animation classics.
