A different kind of challenge run: Minimalist 100%
Part 8 - Shrines
These are only the shrines that *don't* require any extra items. I had actually found a couple more than these already, but in order to not mess up the tally, I will count them in the next part and of course explain which items had been mandatory. ;)
To be honest tho, I didn't expect the "shrines" part to get so big that I'd need two separate videos for it, but since those videos were primarily made for reddit and the site only allows videos shorter than 15 minutes, I opted for 2 separate parts rather than cut content.
As for the Rucco Maag shrine (the one with the "thorn maze" around it) ... I'm going to be honest here: it took me multiple playthroughs to even notice that the thorns form a maze. For the longest time, I thought you were actually required to glide over there, since the constant rain in that area makes it nearly impossible to get rid of the thorns by burning them.
The "3 Giant Brothers" quest is one of the most commonly missed quests, simply because everyone who had to deal with a puzzle orb & shrine platform combination before, usually quickly figures out the solution on their own. The stone tablet is behind the shrine, not needed to make the orbs appear and super easy to miss, so people tend to complete the quest and shrine without actually obtaining the quest first.
There are a couple of similar quests, for example the "Into the Vortex" quest in Akkala (also a stone tablet) or the "Silent Swordswomen" and "The Eye of the Sandstorm" in the Gerudo Desert (both of which have easy-to-miss questivers that aren't close to the shrine location).
If you DO want to complete those quests retroactively, just read the tablet / talk to the questgiver. The quest will appear and auto-complete the same minute.
Additional information:
- The Typhlo Ruins never light up completely. In order to get rid of the "dark zone" you would have to hack the game and manually disable it, but nothing you can do in the un-modded, un-glitched game will ever get rid of the black cloud hovering above that area.
- If you leave the area with the "3 Giant Brothers" mid-quest, the shrine platforms will stay activated. Not even Blood Moons reset those.
- Blood Moons happen every 2 hours and 48 minutes of active playtime. "Active" playtime refers to time when the in-game timer is ticking - time spent in menus, loading screens, dialogue, the quick access menu etc. does not count, so you can't just pause the game and wait 3 IRL hours for the next Blood Moon. Here is an in-depth explanation about how it really works: https://lemmy.world/post/2936862
- There are numerous other ways to clear the "Lurelin Roof Korok Puzzle", some of which are complicated, some of which are super easy to do but require items. Some people use stasis to shoot the rock up there, some attach Octo Balloons to the rock to make it float up, and I've even seen someone drag a metal door from near Hateno Tower back to Lurelin to attempt to use it as a ramp. As long as the rock ends up there, every method is viable ;)
