This video looks at the fourth posture or stance in General Qi Jiguang's sword and rattan shield manual written during the Ming dynasty. The Rolling Shield Stance is a method for entering on the spearman's right side, and I believe that it is also a way to recover when the shield is no longer able to keep the spear to the left.
