What can a team build in just 24 hours using EEG and Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) technology?
At the BR41N.IO BCI & Neurotechnology Hackathon, Team 2A2S1T developed Gazebound, a horror game that explores how Brain-Computer Interfaces can transform gaming experiences. Built around the Unicorn Hybrid Black EEG headset, the project investigates how attention, focus, and cognitive control can become core gameplay mechanics instead of relying on traditional controllers.
In Gazebound, players are trapped in a dense forest covered in fog while being stalked by a terrifying monster. The concept challenges players to remain calm under pressure and use their mental focus as their only defense. The team designed the game so that the player concentrates on visual cues associated with the monster, turning attention and brain activity into a unique human-computer interaction experience. In this game, awareness, concentration, and mental control are essential for survival.
During the 24-hour hackathon, the team trained and integrated the Unicorn Hybrid Black EEG headset while developing the game environment, gameplay mechanics, visual effects, and BCI interaction concepts. Although the complete EEG control loop was not fully implemented within the limited development time, the project successfully demonstrated how neurotechnology and gaming can be combined to create innovative Brain-Computer Interface experiences.
A major advantage of Unicorn Hybrid Black is that teams can immediately begin developing Brain-Computer Interface applications without spending valuable time on EEG hardware integration, signal acquisition infrastructure, software development, or data streaming. With Unicorn Suite and a ready-to-use BCI platform, developers can focus directly on building applications, testing ideas, and creating real-time EEG experiences. This allows teams to rapidly prototype Brain-Computer Interfaces, gaming applications, neurotechnology solutions, and human-computer interaction systems within a single hackathon.
Gazebound highlights the potential of EEG gaming, Brain-Computer Interfaces, cognitive neuroscience, real-time processing, neural decoding, and immersive interactive experiences. The project demonstrates how Unicorn Hybrid Black enables rapid BCI development and helps innovators transform creative ideas into working neurotechnology prototypes in only 24 hours.
