Serbia-headquartered MIKROE today announced the signing of a multi-year MCU development tool support deal with Renesas Electronics Corporation, which commits MIKROE to provide development tools for 500 of Renesas’ most popular MCUs, plus upcoming new releases.
A ‘Planet Debug’ remote board farm, which enables developers anywhere in the world to remotely debug code without having to invest in any hardware, has also been established – the first of its kind for Renesas, according to the company.
EE Times interviewed MIKROE CEO Neb Matic to explain the background and significance of the deal to both his company and to Renesas. In the interview, Matic explains how the company has evolved from a development board supplier into a full embedded development ecosystem designed to reduce friction for engineers.
He talks about how MIKROE combines thousands of Click boards, a multi architecture IDE, validated software libraries, AI assisted code generation, and cloud hosted remote hardware to enable rapid prototyping and testing of real embedded systems regardless of location.
Within that context, Matc describes the partnership with Renesas as strategically significant. Over 500 Renesas microcontrollers are already available through MIKROE’s platform, with new devices supported as they are released, allowing developers to evaluate new MCUs on real hardware the same day they are announced.
He says the agreement is a long term, revenue-generating customer success partnership, and said Renesas’ willingness to work with an external tools provider reflects a broader shift toward ecosystem driven MCU adoption.
