This video shows how to make refillable Miele TwinDos canisters for the detergent & fabric softener slots.
Tools used:
- Sewing needle & thread
- Scissors
- Power drill & 12mm drillbit (or another way to make a 12mm hole in plastic)
- Carpenter's knife (or another way to smooth out the drilled hole)
At around 4m40s in the video I screwed up and drilled through the bottom of the canister, which would have caused it to leak. That was easily fixed with some plastic glue & duct tape.
Note that the cap added to the canister is only semi-watertight, I'm careful not to turn them upside down or stand them on their sides. It holds, but I don't really trust it. It's not a problem because there's no reason to ever orient them differently.
It's VERY IMPORTANT when refilling the canisters not to overfill them. They're inserted at an incline into the machine, and the vent hole is in the front, therefore having too much detergent or fabric softener will block the vent hole, and the machine will only be able to suck out a little bit before negative pressure in the canister blocks any further extraction of the soap. See the last 30 seconds or so for the approximate fill limit (the label was custom added with a labeling machine I have).
