In 2016, Microsoft released a mysterious chatbot on Twitter named Tay for the internet to interact with. The chatbot was created so that Microsoft could see how the AI would learn and interact with the internet.

At first, Tay AI would have normal conversations with users, but within a few hours, there would be a thread posted on 4Chan’s /pol/. 4Chan decided that it would be hilarious if they taught the AI a ton of controversial ideas so that they could mold it into one of their own.
