Electrolysis if zinc sulfate solution on a microscale.

Equipment:
Carbon fibre anode
Graphite pencil lead cathode
Dimpled tile
0.1M zinc sulfate solution
12v d.c. powerpack, crocodile clips and leads

When the power was turned on a dark solid, zinc metal, formed rapidly around the cathode in the middle.

Bubbles of colourless gas, presumably oxygen, were formed at the anode around the outside.

As the electrolysis progressed bubbles of colurless gas were produced at from the zinc metal formed at the cathode too. This was likely to have been hydrogen gas.
