Three displacement reactions studied at school:

1 Magnesium + copper (II) sulfate

2 Magnesium + zinc sulfate

3 Zinc + copper (II) sulfate

These are usually carried out on a much smaller scale.

Students might be asked to write chemical equations for the three reactions and explain them in terms of relative reactivity of the three metals magnesium, zinc and copper.
