Former welterweight and middleweight champion Mickey Walker, known as the “Toy Bulldog,” moved up to the heavyweight division to face top contender Jack Sharkey in a scheduled 15-round bout.
Despite giving up nearly 30 pounds, Walker fought aggressively and matched the larger Sharkey throughout the contest. After fifteen hard rounds, the fight was declared a draw.
The bout became one of the most famous examples of a smaller great challenging a true heavyweight contender during boxing’s golden era.
