Another demonstration of the Keywest Technology 840 character generator and the Sage Alerting Systems ENDEC. This is a short follow-up to the previously unlisted "MHz Sub-Alert Mode 1 on Keywest 840" video: youtube.com/watch?v=N9GtgtvfAsQ
Unlike Mode 1 (completely full-screen), the '99;99;' in the upper left does not display here (the only thing it generates is the ticker, else it'll display a specific page already entered into memory.)
A few things of note:
- The visuals freezing at 0:02 are likely a result of the ENDEC attempting to receive acknowledgement from the 840 (or so I seem to recall. It sends the command to configure the CG first, requests acknowledgement, then continues on and broadcasts the audio.) Either that or I managed to pause it, which if I also remember was a thing you can do.
- The flickering bars appear when there is nothing plugged into the video input on the back (presumably failing to find a clock signal to hang onto.) It seems to occur on both Video Output and the preview/'Monitor' output, which only shows the character generator's output without the input video, though is fine if you plug a video signal (that it likes, else the entire thing will be a mess of rainbows) in.
- The crawl speeding up and cutting off near the end is a result of me aborting the crawl. It usually brings you back to a new page, but at the end of the recording I change the output from Monitor to the regular Video output to test Mode 1. (and since I already made a video about that, I trimmed that off of this video.)
- The "UCF Emergency Notification System" test slide you see during the crawl was already programmed onto the Keywest 840 when I bought it (it was the first thing I saw upon booting it up) although I did make a few small changes as I was learning how to use the system, particularly setting half of the screen to key incoming video (appears as gray as this was recorded through the "Monitor" output) and making colored bars out of the few selectable color options (obscured, but you can see a tiny bit of it above the crawl.) From my assumptions, this machine was previously used at the University of Central Florida's internal headend for their emergency override/local access alert system before being decomissioned (and likely replaced.)
- There will not be a Mode 3 video, as it is literally just the same ticker as the first video I did about this character generator. Kindly don't me about it.
- I don't know what the background audio was from other than it being whatever was airing on NBC around that same time.
Recorded on July 12, 2018 at around 2:52 PM local time. The capture system used was a Dazzle DVC100 (this was loooong before I got the GV-USB2) using AmaRecTV on a computer running Windows XP. (if you REALLY wanted to know that information, lol.)
