This rock guitar solo is from a new fusion rock song that I am recording. I am trying to establish a melodic theme and combine some faster lines with the open space of slower progressions.
I’m using a Fender American Special Stratocaster. I am running that into a Universal Audio Apollo Twin, with UA plug-ins such as the Marshall Plexi Classic, Fairchild Compressor, Galaxy Tape Echo, Ocean Way Studios, and Oxide Tape.
I write guitar-based music that draws from rock, blues, jazz, soul, and fusion. Eric Johnson, Pat Metheny, David Gilmour, Frank Zappa, and Nick Johnston are some of my favorite players. This wont be the most popular song Ive ever released, but it will always carry a personal meaning for me. The song is pretty experimental, and I think of it as a song where my style is being pushed to something new. The song can be heard as a blend of the elements that make up my last single, Castle of Renfora the Eighth, an older, funky release called The Sound of Time, and a much older, very experimental song called Shiny New Spoons. Ive been increasingly incorporating progressive elements into my songwriting, and that influence is more obvious in this song. Even if the tune isnt your cup of tea, stick around for the groove breakdown at 2:20 and wait for the release around the 3:00 mark. I live for that tension.

A bunch of boisterous beans can’t be held down! Power without measure!
This song is about a bunch of unruly beans with a spirit that just can’t be stamped out. These are beans that jump around and smack you with enthusiasm just to show you that they are the most vivacious beans on the planet.
Not every song must be about inner conflict, the movement of light, the external forces that push the direction of our lives, and the midnight sky. There are times when songs about chili and beans are the right move. Fun with a capital F.
This song was written at the height of COVID pandemic, when most everyone I know was experiencing some degree of lockdown. Originally titled, ‘Long Line for the Chili,’ the idea was to focus on the experience of waiting in line for something you didn’t expect to wait for — like when there is an inexplicable 20-minute wait at a fast food drive thru. But then I flipped the frame of the situation, realizing that the chili must be really impressive if the line is comically long. And what kind of chili could be so good that it commands such a line? An Extraordinarily Rambunctious Vat of Chili, of course.
