Melitopol is a city in southern Ukraine that has been under Russian occupation since the end of February.
On this territory the steppes were once home to the Scythians, and some centuries later the Kozaks arrived and constructed their defensive redoubt here. A unique relic of the past called Kamiana Mohyla can also be found not far from Melitopol. This mysterious place fascinates and captivates not only researchers, but many tourists as well.
Almost every Ukrainian has heard about Melitopol cherries, and this city is famous not only for its honey-sweet fruits, but also for its multicultural community. After the start of the full-scale invasion, Melitopol residents bravely defended their home: they went out to mass protests against the occupation authorities, put up leaflets, tied ribbons in the colours of the Ukrainian flag, and joined the resistance movement.
We must make every effort to return Melitopol because this is our city. And this is Ukraine.
