After saving Mamoru, along with the whole Hospital at Beach Street, Lan is going to recieve a commendation at SciLab, for his actions as a NetBattler. As soon as we leave though, a pretty well-known character shows up.

Indeed, Mr. Match is back. After taking a backseat in the last game, appearing as an optional boss, he's part of the main plot of Battle Network 3. He claims he's turned over a new leaf, leaving his WWW days behind to become a scientist.

Lan seems to trust his words pretty fast, and starts working for him immediately. Thus, this episode covers the first half of this chapter. We are sent into several missions by Mr. Match, all of them with the same objective: the deletion of WWW Navis who have spawned all over the Net.
