Global News | “May their memory be a revolution”: Trudeau condemns Hamas attacks on 1-year anniversary @globalnews | Uploaded October 2024 | Updated October 2024, 1 week ago.
A year after Hamas’ deadly attack on Israel, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau honoured the victims and condemned the militant group’s “barbaric” attack.

The attack last year on Oct. 7 is the deadliest act of violence against Jews since the Holocaust.

Trudeau praised the Jewish community for pulling together in the aftermath of the tragedy and denounced acts of antisemitism that have taken place in Canada and abroad in the wake of the attack.

Trudeau also paused to remember those who were killed or taken hostage by Hamas a year ago.

“May their memory be a blessing. But more than that, may their memory be a revolution. A revolution to bring about a world where violent Jew hatred like the attacks of Oct. 7 are unimaginable,” he said.

Some 1,200 people people were killed in the attacks on Oct. 7 and around 250 people were taken hostage.

Canada also saw multiple protests Monday, criticizing Israel's military action in Gaza that has killed more than 41,000 Palestinians, according to the territory's health ministry.
