Many of you started following along with me when we lived on Maui, and while we’re here in California now, my heart is just absolutely broken for the people of Lahaina. 💔 It’s a special place to anyone who’s visited but is home to so many and means so much to the history + culture of the island.
The people of Maui take care of each other and it’s heartwarming to see them doing that this past week, but it’s a long, long road ahead since it’s a remote little island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean without access to all the things we have access to here. Many people in that area are not wealthy, are working service jobs and don’t have insurance. I hope that by raising some money we can rally together to support them in a small way.
My favorite day of my life to date was this day on the ocean off the Lahaina harbor watching dozens of whales and their babies with my family. When I was pregnant with Tennessee we visited Maui and spent a few days in Lahaina at a little condo. We fell in love with Maui on that trip and joked that maybe one day we’d just sell everything and move there.
That little condo and thousands more burned in the recent fire.
For some reason the day before we moved back, we decided to drive out and stay one more night there. We ate at all our favorite restaurants and I basically spent the day crying off and on with gratitude for our beautiful family and the memories that we’d had on beautiful Maui.
We love you Lahaina. ❤️ I wish there was more we could do.
