Mathematical Models of Brain Organoids to Study Neurodevelopment  @ScienceSketches

Formed in vitro (in the lab) from pluripotent stem cells, brain organoids are 3D tissue cultures that when growing can exhibit interesting mechanisms found in the early brain development: the self-organization of cells leading to brain-like regions. As a result, researchers actively use them as exciting experimental models to study neurodevelopment and its associated disorders such as lissencephaly (smooth brain).
Here, we propose to shift the point of view from the purely experimental picture with a quick
overview of mathematical modeling approaches to further support this active research field.
