Here are some bits, mostly commercials, taken from the CBS network feed of episode #0289 of "Match Game '74," filmed on August 31st, 1974.
First you'll see the CBS slate with the above information for this episode (air date to be announced), with Johnny Olson's voice-over. Then:
--Gene Rayburn throws to an animated/live action commercial for Magic Pre-Wash, not especially clever but well done (I’m probably wrong but MPW sounds a bit like Royal Dano to me);
--a funny ad for 4-Way Nasal Spray featuring that nose and Seymour the Daisy (familiar voices in there, too);
--in-from and out-to commercials
--a mom passes along kitchen know-how to her daughter, such as not bothering to fry up a mess of bacon when Bac-O's (those "bits of bacon-like flavor") will do the trick;
--a wife and mother contemplates whether she'd prefer the void of oblivion to the drudgery of feeding her family day in and day out. She settles on slopping them with pizza-flavored Hamburger Helper. "You really oughta try it!" she enthuses--you know, as an alternative to the hassle of disappearing yourself.
--Olson shills tickets;
--Mary Jo Catlett gives her Sears Ah-h Bra a workout (with other familiar actresses I can't name):
--Bronk-Aid Mist (with animated lungs and no ephedrine warning);
--Mae Questel (as Aunt Bluebell) gets talked down to by smug shopper Ron Silver, then shuts his big mouth with a heavy roll of ScotTowels (not literally, though that would have been great);
--in the next ad, Bernie Kopell uses Lifebuoy Soap because he is very concerned about smelling clean. Joyce Bulifant confirms Bernie's clean-smelliness, then tells him never to work with Gavin MacLeod because he's a real pain in the ass. (Settle down Gavin MacLeod fans, it's just a joke);
--an audience pan leads into the consolation prizes--American Tourister, True Value Hardware Tru-Test Paint, Wizard Air Fresheners--and back to the audience;
--Another Lifebuoy user smells clean, this time confirmed by his daughter;
--dogs love eggs, so feed yours Purina Beef & Egg Dog Chow instead of keeping a chicken under the sink;
--Anacin eases minor arthritis pain so you can make your damn bed already;
--a spokeswoman identified as Carmelita Pope recommends both Pam Non-Stick Cooking Spray and its butterish cousin, Golden Touch. If you've never heard of Pope, it's because she was mainly a stage actress, although she also later did one ep each of "General Hospital" and "Days of Our Lives" (and of course you recall her as "Group Member" in the TV Movie pilot for "The Amazing Spider-Man");
--Finally, Johnny Olson voices-over the abbreviated end credits, advising viewers to stay tuned for "Tattletales" (on most CBS affiliates, anyway).
