This video is a sign-off of WNEW (New York City's channel 5) from early Wednesday morning, March 20th, 1985. At “nine-and-a-half minutes past 4 o’clock,” announcer Ed Ladd read the news headlines (which includes mention of an execution that had occurred just a few hours earlier, shortly after midnight, helping me determine the date as found in a New York Times article online).
A short promo for "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (part of the coming "Academy Award Saturday" line-up, with the Oscars happening that Sunday night) precedes the headlines, which are then followed by the standard WNEW 1130AM "Milkman's Matinee" plug. After that is another Saturday movie promo, for "West Side Story."
The sermonette is delivered by William Salvia (who I believe was a pastor from Staten Island), accompanied by Leroy Anderson's "Forgotten Dreams." Another announcer, Tom Gregory, says good night on behalf of the station. The National Anthem is played over local scenes, wrapped around a song I haven't been able to identify, with a 1983 copyright. Color bars are seen briefly at the end.
