I love Saturday Night Live. I love cocktails. And I love beer. So why not combine all three into one amazing beverage?! That's exactly what I did in this video.
Today's drinks are inspired by the hit song "Massachusetts Afternoon" by the Blue Jean Committee, a fictitious 70’s soft-rock band that first debuted in a 2011 episode of Saturday Night Live. From there, the Blue Jean Committee turned into a spoof of The Eagles and other yacht rock legends on Fred Armisen and Bill Hader’s show “Documentary Now.” If you love those soft 70’s sounds, they’ve even got a seven song EP available called “Catalina Breeze.”
I hope you'll try BOTH of these drinks and let me know in the comments which version you like better. Cheers!
Massachusetts Afternoon: Long Drink
- 1 1/2 oz bourbon
- 3/4 oz cinnamon syrup
- 3/4 oz lemon juice
- 1 or 2 dashes mole bitters
- Top with citrus wheat ale (approx. 3-4 oz)
Shake with ice and dump contents into pint glass.
Massachusetts Afternoon: Up
- 2 oz overproof rye whiskey
- 3/4 oz cinnamon syrup
- 3/4 oz lemon juice
- 1 or 2 dashes mole bitters
- Top with citrus wheat ale (approx. 1 oz)
Shake with ice and strain into chilled cocktail coupe. Garnish with flamed cinnamon stick.
