What happens when technology solves survival… but doesn’t solve meaning?
Welcome to the Hidden Archive, in this episode of Field Notes, I explore Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs through a modern lens, asking whether technology, automation, AI, social media, status, creativity, and self-actualisation still fit into Maslow’s famous pyramid.
If humanity eventually solves the base-level problems of food, shelter, safety, and security, what happens next? Do we become free? Or do we simply encounter a deeper crisis of meaning?
From the industrial revolution to AI, from parasocial relationships to creative industry status games, this video looks at how modern life pushes us up Maslow’s hierarchy, and why the top of the pyramid may be more unsettling than we expect.
I also reflect on creative work, recognition, Carl Jung, dream journaling, the search for wholeness, and why self-actualisation might not be about “doing what you love” but becoming fully conscious of who you are in relation to the world around you.
This is a video about psychology, creativity, technology, status, and the uncomfortable question of what comes after survival.
