Brown vs Board of Ed meant to change but it stayed the same
Bus driver telling Rosa that she better move on down
Can’t somebody help us here in Montgomery
Here comes Dr. Martin Luther King
Junior, so young but he’s gonna lead the way
He organized the bus boycott
With non-violence
Over a year he did not
Waiver from his stance
That all society will prosper
When civil rights for all advance
Dr. King was dreaming
That we all may have an equal chance
He fought, he struggled, he bleed, and he sacrificed
Firebombed his house, still he spoke out and raised some noise
They still tried to, tried to silence him with all their might, ohh..
Still a Birmingham jail couldn’t silence his voice
Now it’s time to March on Washington
Ohh, King’s speech will make us realize
The time has come for us to live in
Peace and harmony
Speaking to a quarter million
About equality
Judge each other’s character and not just the skin that we see
This was his dream, his vision
But could it become reality?
Down in Selma,
The country saw just how morally wrong
it was. King stood firm even when attacked
Congress then passed the Voting Rights Act
The struggle still went on
Kept fighting on for justice
For those who have no means
His life threatened, he was
Unafraid of their schemes
Not fearing any man ‘cause the glory of the Lord, he had seen
Too soon he was taken from us
But we have his dream
We may not still have him with us
But we have his dream
