Do you know Martha Ballard? She was the subject of Monday's @MaineCalling. A new memorial to to her will be dedicated on Wednesday at 5:30 at Mill Park in Augusta.
Ballard, a midwife and healer, lived during the late 1700’s and early 1800’s in Hallowell Maine, in what is now Augusta. Her diary was the basis of the 1990 Pulitzer Prize winning history book The Diary of a Midwife, and then a PBS film, and more recently, the novel The Frozen River – which is historical fiction.
